GSU Spring Scrimmage 2012

Georgia State University
Spring Scrimmage 2012

Pantherettes greeted fans with programs/rosters.
An enthusiastic crowd, made up of Georgia State family and fans, lined the football practice field and filled the temporary bleachers for the Spring Scrimmage. Coach Bill Curry welcomed everyone, and shared comments throughout the warmups and scrimmage.
Coach Curry Greeting the Panther Fans
The offense won the scrimmage.
A number of players had good plays. Lots of new faces had playing time today. Defense had 14 players sidelined with injuries (including my son, and his roommate, Mark Hogan, GSU's first signed player.)

It was fun seeing former players returning for the scrimmage! Several former Panthers are in the process of trying out for the NFL draft!

Many attendees enjoyed their first look at the indoor practice facility, which opened in August 2011. The building houses locker rooms, training rooms, film room, laundry, conference rooms, etc. (The team has been using the practice fields for two years.) The football complex is a great example of GSU's influence on urban renewal in Atlanta.

It was great to see fellow "Panther Mamas," Dads, family members, and fans today! We're looking forward to starting Season Three on Thursday, August 30th, at the Georgia Dome!  GO PANTHERS!

Georgia State Panthers Spring Scrimmage at the Dome!

Georgia State Panthers
Spring Scrimmage at the Dome!

Scores of Loyal Panther Fans, Fraternity and, Sorority Members, Alums, Bloggers and Followers, Panther Talk regulars, Pantherettes, journalists, photographers, and new friends, met in the Georgia Dome's Orange Lot, hours before the scrimmage to enjoy food and libations at the Panther Talk, and other, Tailgate Parties. Stories of the Inaugural Season, and speculations on our upcoming Second Season, were shared and enjoyed by all!
Here's a link to a gallery with more tailgating photos. Please feel free to tag the photos. (Panther Talk Bloggers/posters: Please tag photos of people you know, so we can put names with faces!)

The Dome was Rockin' when the doors opened, to the sounds of The Regulars Band

3,400+ Fans were pumped up, and lots of those around me were dancing and singing along with the band and sound system! The Pantherettes and Panther Cheerleaders kept the crowd revved up! AirTran, the Georgia State Book Store, and other regular season sponsors, continued their fun contests and games on the field during breaks.

The team took to the field, led by the the cheerleaders.

The offense had quite a lead in the beginning, 14-0, when the defense caught up, and then dominated the rest of the scrimmage. Defense won: 41-27. Check out Panther Talk and Georgia State Sports for more "sports savvy" technical details!

The general crowd consensus was an attitude of excitement about Georgia State's upcoming Second Football Season. There was optimistic talk about moving from the CAA to the SEC, sometime down the road.

The foundational plans are in place to grow GSU football into a program of prominence. To do that, we need corporate support, GSU alumni, and other Atlantans who want to be part of our NEWEST HOMETOWN TEAM, to get on board, come to games, and be a part of the NEW PANTHER NATION!

Please help us spread the word! GSU football is great for family reunions, church and school groups, corporate celebrations, and kid's parties! GSU Athletics has special group packages for every event!

GSU Football is a great tradition to start with your family. Football Season Ticket prices start at only $72 for the ENTIRE SEASON! That's only $12 per game for 6 home games IN THE GEORGIA DOME! The weather is always great in the Dome!

Check out other Georgia State Sports, as well.Tickets for all Georgia State Sports are affordably priced!
